What does Sizanani mean to Makabongwe ?
Growing up in a Umlazi township, I witnessed the power of Stokvels, first-hand, when my father was able to purchase a taxi with the money saved from his Stokvel. The history of our country has denied many black people meaningful access to financial services. As a result, our people turned to community savings groups so they could have access to credit, savings, and investment products.
The beginning of democracy in South Africa ushered in new promises of opportunities - promises of financial empowerment and upliftment for all. However, 27 years into our democracy, financial inclusion for all South Africans is still a dream.
Financial products that are sold in black communities seek to extract value instead of creating it as the divide in understanding between financial institutions and the needs of the masses widens.
At Sizanani Technologies, we are guided by our vision of a truly inclusive economy in South Africa, by creating financial products that speak to the needs of the people. Our flagship product, the WhatsApp Group Banking Chatbot for Stokvels has no transaction fees - encouraging the many blossoming groups in the country to continue doing so and encouraging those who want to start a group, to start.
